Contributing to an expansion in the demographics of aesthetic patients, the trend of non-invasive skin revitalization has been significant. People of all ages are seeking procedures like microneedling or radiofrequency (RF) to refresh their skin and ward off the signs of aging. PLEXR® Plus, by Med Results (Los Angeles, Calif.), seeks to usher in a new era of aesthetic facial rejuvenation by taking skin revitalization to the next level with trending treatments such as the ‘Rockstar’ treatment and the PLEXR Shower.

“Imagine an ablative technology with no thermal damage…this is PLEXR,” stated researcher and developer of PLEXR Plus, Arash Kalantari (Beverly Hills, Calif.). “We developed PLEXR to address specific gaps in plasma technology and offer a nonsurgical alternative, which we now call ‘soft surgery’. While PLEXR has been a pioneer in the field of plasma generators, what sets it apart is the minimal thermal damage it imparts. Unlike other devices, PLEXR does not rely on RF or high electric currents, making it the safest energy-based device available.”

Maryam Hekmat, MD, founder and medical director of VIP MedSpa Clinic (San Diego, Calif.) incorporates PLEXR Plus in her practice and finds that the device does have advantages over other technologies. “PLEXR Plus is an ablative modality that stands out from lasers by sublimating tissue, not vaporizing it,” she explained. “This innovative, patented approach ensures minimal thermal damage as the energy remains outside the skin, effectively removing tissue without additional harm. A benefit for physicians is the easy-to-apply energy, and benefits for patients include a faster recovery with less damage to the surrounding tissue and minimal downtime.”

Dr. Hekmat shared that she uses her PLEXR device for skin rejuvenation and tightening. “For mild skin tightening, one treatment will be enough, but for more severe skin laxity, at least two to three treatments every six to eight weeks is ideal,” she mentioned. “I use topical lidocaine for numbing and to help mitigate pain during the procedure. I use PLEXR Plus for shrinking the large pores on the nose and cheeks and to smooth skin texture of the face and neck; in combination with injectables like dermal fillers to help with volume loss; and polydioxanone (PDO) threads for lifting. I have also used PLEXR Plus for abdominal skin tightening.”

“We are currently exploring new indications that were previously challenging to treat, such as psoriasis, eczema and ocular surface microsurgeries, along with procedures for pterygium and pinguecula,” Mr. Kalantari continued. “This ongoing research promises to expand the applications of plasma technology and its role in the field of aesthetic medicine.”

Driven by innovations like PLEXR Plus, the future of aesthetic plasma treatments is expanding and is proving to be another exciting tool for cosmetic practitioners to help their patients turn back the clock.
