Woman sentenced for illegal buttocks procedures

Article-Woman sentenced for illegal buttocks procedures

New York — A Manhattan federal court judge has sentenced a Bronx woman to one year in jail for performing illegal cosmetic surgery in her home.

Citing a story in the New York Daily News, CBS News reports Whalesca Castillo, 37, was found guilty of performing $1,500 buttocks lifts with illegal injections of silicone without a medical license.

Federal prosecutors first found out about Ms. Castillo’s illegal procedures when an unhappy customer reported her two years ago. Prosecutors said the customer had paid Ms. Castillo for a buttocks lift but experienced pain and shortness of breath following a silicone injection. The woman told prosecutors she had asked Ms. Castillo if she should go to the hospital, but Ms. Castillo told her the hospital wouldn’t help her because the procedure had been done illegally.

Prosecutors said another woman had Ms. Castillo do a similar procedure, after which the injected area began leaking blood and liquid. Prosecutors say the woman texted Ms. Castillo asking for advice and was told to “buy some Crazy Glue and put it on.”

Ms. Castillo was arrested in January 2011 and released on bail. She was arrested again after prosecutors discovered she had moved to a different location and continued to do her illegal procedures.

Authorities say Ms. Castillo collected more than $100,000 performing illegal cosmetic surgery.
