Subcutaneous Browlift

Article-Subcutaneous Browlift

Procedure Description: A brow lift — sometimes called a forehead lift —is a procedure designed to raise the eyebrows, smooth the forehead and reduce signs of aging. A browlift is similar to a facelift and can improve the overall appearance of the face. The result of a brow lift is a more aesthetically pleasing, refreshed appearance.

This specific technique is not as commonly used as other browlift techniques. Here, the incision is made across the top of the forehead, just at the hairline. Like a facelift for the brow, the subcutaneous browlift is performed just under the skin. Excess skin can be removed. The hairline stays where it is and usually numbness does not occur. However, the scar can be visible, and you may need to wear your hair forward or wear bangs after this type of surgery. Some surgeons claim the use of a slanted incision in this brow lift technique leaves less of a scar.

Length of Procedure: Browlift surgery procedure takes from between 30 minutes and 90 minutes and, although this lift can be done with local anesthesia, IV sedation or general anesthesia is more commonly used.

Recovery: Your face will be bruised and swollen for a few days after browlift. To reduce swelling, you may be instructed to keep your head elevated for a couple of days and sleep with several pillows. You will probably be asked to return to see your surgeon within a few days of surgery. Most patients experience minor pain and swelling in the initial days after the brow lift procedure. However, this is minimal and can be eased by taking pain relievers. Your surgeon may give you a prescription for a pain medication. Most patients feel well enough to return to work after about a week. Full recovery from browlift surgery takes about two weeks. However, you may be instructed to avoid strenuous activity (heavy lifting or extremely active sports) for longer than that. You should also avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight for several months after the procedure.

Risks: Some such risks and side effects of a browlift include: a decreased ability to raise the eyebrows and/or wrinkle the forehead due to minor nerve damage; the appearance of a broad scar; hair loss; infection, bleeding and/or loss of sensation in the area near where the incision(s) were made.

Results: The benefits of a browlift procedure are a younger and refreshed appearance. You may also look more relaxed, since lines and furrows on the forehead may be making you look worried or angry when you are not.

Estimated Cost: The total cost can range from $5,000 up to $7,000.
