Micro-focused ultrasound (MFU) is a focused form of high-intensity frequency ultrasound (HIFU) wave that has gained traction as an effective nonsurgical bioregenerative treatment for skin laxity and texture. Radiofrequency (RF) treatments have also gained significant popularity for skin tightening by sending heat to the deeper layers of the skin for collagenesis. Hanwon Ryu, MD, currently serves as the head of Pohang Human Dermatology Clinic in South Korea and takes advantage of New Doublo 2.0 technologies to create highly customized treatments. “The main highlight of New Doublo 2.0 is its robust HIFU foundation,” he began. “By adopting a multilayered approach, we can create customized treatment strategies. For example, we may apply RF microneedling to the epidermis, combine bipolar RF and dot HIFU for the dermal layer and focus HIFU on the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) layer.

“I focus treatment primarily on the cheeks and jawline, excluding areas with volume loss,” Dr. Ryu continued. “Typically, I use the 4.5 mm and 3.0 mm tips, administering around 600 shots. In some cases, I employ the ‘Mega Doublo’ approach, using up to 1,000 shots in dot mode across the face, made possible by the device’s rapid firing speed. Following this, I use a synergy tip, which combines bipolar RF and dot HIFU, administering approximately 2,000 to 3,000 shots to areas like the nasolabial folds and around the eyes.”

New Doublo 2.0 cartridges have various penetration depths for greater precision, and the device includes a synergy handpiece that combines bipolar RF and dot HIFU, available in three depths. According to Dr. Hwang, this combination enhances versatility in areas well-suited to RF, including the eye area and nasolabial folds. “By integrating bipolar RF and dot HIFU, New Doublo 2.0 extends its application beyond skin tightening and rejuvenation across multiple layers and has proven beneficial in treating pigmentation issues for patients with compromised dermal environments,” he added.

In Dr. Hwang’s experience, New Doublo 2.0 offers significantly faster treatment speeds and reasonable cartridge costs, allowing providers to deliver a greater number of shots to each patient to achieve significant results, leading to an increase in patient referrals. “New Doublo 2.0 is one of my preferred lifting devices,” he commented. “The relatively less painful treatments help us build rapport with customers that we would not normally have, and versatility has expanded New Doublo 2.0’s role as a multifunctional device, meeting a wide range of patient needs.”
