Laser and energy devices among top trends

Article-Laser and energy devices among top trends

Of the 94 million people who visited RealSelf.com in 2017, about 50% researched minimally invasive treatments. And more than half of the most researched minimally invasive categories contained laser and energy device treatments, according to the RealSelf U.S. Laser & Energy Report released July 2018.

Consumer interest in laser and energy device treatments grew 10.5% in 2017 compared to 2016, according to RealSelf, an online worldwide marketplace where consumers can both learn about cosmetic treatments and connect with providers.

Laser and energy device treatments for fat reduction, vaginal rejuvenation, facial rejuvenation and hair removal were top trends for those searching on RealSelf.

In fact, more people researched fat reduction than any other minimally invasive treatment category, including toxins and fillers, in 2017. CoolSculpting (Zeltiq), SmartLipo (Cynosure) and SculpSure (Cynosure) were the most researched devices for fat reduction that year.

Searches within the category of vaginal rejuvenation increased 17% from 2016 to 2017. Interest in ThermiVa increased 45%, for example. Patients also report being highly satisfied with vaginal rejuvenation treatments. Devices deemed most “Worth It” include diVa Vaginal Therapy (Sciton), FemiLift (Alma), MonaLisa Touch (Cynosure/Hologic) and ThermiVa (Thermi) — each with higher than a 90% Worth It rating.

Facial lasers made up the fourth most researched nonsurgical treatment category on RealSelf last year.  Fraxel Laser (Solta), followed by the CO2 laser, were the two most researched facial lasers. Ultherapy (Merz Aesthetics) topped searches for nonsurgical skin tightening, but the Profound RF (Syneron/Candela) got the highest Worth It rating for nonsurgical skin tightening, at 97%.

Among the treatments that entered the market in 2016 or after, the five that stood out as emerging treatments based on notable consumer interest growth are Geneveve (Viveve) and Ultra Femme (BTL) for vaginal rejuvenation, BroadBand Light (Sciton) for facial rejuvenation, and FaceTite (InMode) and PrecionTx (Cynosure) for nonsurgical skin tightening.
