Plasma skin regeneration is shaking up the aesthetic market as a non-invasive alternative to many cosmetic procedures, with Plexr Plus® by GVM (Rome, Italy) at the forefront. FDA cleared for the removal and destruction of skin lesions and tissue coagulation, the Plexr Plus plasma device allows aesthetic physicians to lift eyelids, combat wrinkles and improve skin quality with safe and effective treatments that require little to no downtime.

According to plastic and reconstructive surgeon Robert Fischer, MD (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Plexr Plus is a plasma generating device used to contract and tighten the skin’s surface by delivering energy to superficial skin cells without affecting the deeper or surrounding tissue. “This device ionizes the nitrogen in the air gap between the tip of its probe and the stratum corneum, creating small but powerful bolts of energy, without actually touching the skin,” Dr. Fischer explained. “By accurately placing dozens of minute superficial wounds, we are able to perform ‘soft surgery’ on virtually any part of the body to shrink and tighten redundant skin folds and wrinkles, as well as lift sagging tissue.”

Plexr Plus’ plasma technology offers quick results and even quicker recovery with procedures such as the Plexr Shower and the Rockstar treatment. Incorporating a triangle tip with a 1 cm – 2 cm spot size, the device releases numerous nano plasma bolts onto the skin’s surface to create micro-injuries that trigger skin tightening, while improving skin permeability for topical treatment applications.

“It is great for removing all types of benign skin lesions, from keloid scars to skin tags, and xanthelasmas to keratoses,” Dr. Fischer reported. “It is useful for blending out acne scars as well as treating acute acne lesions and has been used quite successful on abdominal striae. Redundant vaginal labia can be normalized with the Plexr. Even superficial but disfiguring scleral lesions can be removed without damaging the delicate cornea or global tissues. ‘Barcode’ deformities of the upper lip can be smoothed out and gummy smiles can be corrected as well.”

After treatment Dr. Fischer explained that patients can expect numerous small pixel-like crusts, or eschars, that fall off over several days after treatment, along with varying degrees of erythema, depending on the intensity of the treatment. The side effects are comparable to a strong sunburn, with some fine peeling and itching. “The post-procedure healing regimen consists of nourishing, moisturizing and essentially feeding the skin with various topicals, while sun blockers and big hats are de rigueur for several months,” he added.

Through sublimation, this non-ablative plasma treatment can be used on any skin type for overall rejuvenation on the face and neck. This device is versatile, and especially effective for treating droopy or hooded eyelids, diminishing wrinkles, improving discoloration and removing skin tags, moles and warts.

In the aesthetic world, Plexr Plus is quickly gaining a reputation as a safe and effective alternative to invasive cosmetic surgeries with comparable results. “My patients are delighted that they can achieve their aesthetic goals for a lower cost, and with quicker healing,” reported Dr. Fischer. “The more I use the device, the more I love it!”
