Restylane seen as effective off-label treatment for cellulite

Article-Restylane seen as effective off-label treatment for cellulite

Chicago—A recent report on the CBS affiliate here says that Restylane, approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating facial wrinkles, is being used effectively by a local dermatologist to treat cellulite on legs.

According to the report, Chicago dermatologist Jeanette Graf, M.D., says Restylane “is working wonders” in treating the dimpled, lumpy skin that occurs as the result of cellulite deposits.

“[Restylane] can be injected very superficially, as well as deep, so you can get it at all levels of skin,” Dr. Graf said in the CBS2 Chicago news story.

The story included a warning from another dermatologist that such treatment might not be for everyone.

“Ideally, this is best suited for someone with very specific, deep dimples, and a limited number of them,” said Boston dermatologist Ranella Hirsch, M.D, adding that the more cellulite a person has, the more injections that person will need—which can become quite expensive.
