The International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) recently released procedural statistics for 2014. Of the more than 20 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed worldwide, can you guess which five countries take the top spots (and which surgical and non-surgical procedure helped them make the list)?

Note: According to IPRAS, rankings are based only on those countries from which a sufficient survey response was received and data were considered to be representative.

 

5. Mexico

Mexico took fifth spot overall with a total of 706,072 (3.5%; 4% surgical and 3.1% non-surgical) procedures performed in 2014. Liposuction was the top surgical procedure in Mexico while botulinum toxin was the top non-surgical procedure. 

 

4. South Korea

South Korea took fourth spot overall with a total of 980,313 (4.8%; 4.6% surgical and 5.1% non-surgical) procedures performed in 2014. Eyelid surgery was the top surgical procedure in South Korea while botulinum toxin was the top non-surgical procedure. 

 

3. Japan

Japan took third spot overall with a total of 1,260,351 (6.2%; 3.4% surgical and 8.8% non-surgical) procedures performed in 2014. Eyelid surgery was the top surgical procedure in Japan while hair removal was the top non-surgical procedure. 

 

2. Brazil

Brazil took second overall with a total of 2,058,505 (10.2%; 13.9% surgical and 6.8% non-surgical) procedures performed in 2014. Liposuction was the top surgical procedure in Brazil while botulinum toxin was the top non-surgical procedure. 

 

1. United States

The United States took first place with a total of 4,064,571 (20.1%; 13.9% surgical and 24.4% non-surgical) procedures performed in 2014. Breast augmentation was the top surgical procedure in the United States while botulinum toxin was the top non-surgical procedure.
