DERMAL FILLER COMBINES HA WITH LIDOCAINE

Anika Therapeutics says the FDA has approved Elevess, an injectable, soft-tissue filler for facial wrinkles and scar remediation.

Elevess is licensed to Galderma Pharma, S.A., which will be launching the product. It is the first in a group of products that is to be developed in partnership with Galderma Pharma, S.A.

The aesthetic filler is based on Anika Therapeutic's modified hyaluronic acid (HA) proprietary technology and includes lidocaine.

According to Anika Therapeutics, Elevess is the first aesthetic filler to add the local anesthetic, and that the product contains the highest level of cross-linked HA currently available in a dermal filler.

LHA CHEMICAL PEEL IMPROVES RADIANCE, SKIN TONE; REDUCES WRINKLES

La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Pharmaceutique introduces the Biomedic LHA-Peel, a new generation of chemical peels that uses LHA (lipo-hydroxy-acid) technology.

LHA, with its lipophilic chain, targets activity zones, liquifying intercellular lipids and cutting through corneodesmosomes. As a result, the corneocytes detach one by one for precise exfoliation, according to the company.

In a clinical study of 59 patients, skin radiance was boosted (59.4 percent) and skin tone was more even (46.4 percent) after the first session. After several peel sessions, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and brown spots was reduced by about 50 percent.

The LHA-Peel comes in two strengths (5 percent and 10 percent).

The Biomedic peel's preparation program (pre-treatment at home) includes a cleansing gel, solution and serum. Patients use these products two weeks before the first peel session and in between sessions. Four to six sessions of the LHA peel are recommended, with the first session employing the 5 percent peel. Procedure time is 10 minutes.

PLASTIC SURGEON-CREATED SKIN CARE LINE CONTAINS HYDROFORMIN, RETROFORMIN

David M. Alessi, M.D., F.A.C.S., facial plastic surgeon and biochemist in Beverly Hills, introduces Alessi Skincare. These products are designed to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and help reverse the signs of aging.

Alessi Skincare was created because Dr. Alessi felt he could not in good faith recommend a quality over-the-counter product to his surgery patients and traditional skin care creams did not have research to back up their efficacy.

Among Dr. Alessi's products are:

Anti-Aging AM and PM Creams. Both creams are light and contain effective peeling agents to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. These anti-aging products contain Retroformin (Dr. Alessi's own formulation of idebenone). This ingredient has been shown to slow the histologic effects of the sun. They also contain Hydroformin (another proprietary formulation) for plumping fine lines and wrinkles.
