Hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler for wrinkle treatment

Article-Hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler for wrinkle treatment

Artes Medical announces the availability of Elevess, an FDA-approved, injectable hyaluronic acid- (HA) based dermal filler for the treatment of facial wrinkles. Designed, developed and manufactured by Anika Therapeutics, the firm states that Elevess marks the first FDA-approved HA filler formulated with an anesthetic for patient comfort.

Elevess is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Company literature relates that, in a randomized, controlled pivotal study of 208 patients, Elevess was shown to be safe and effective for up to six months. Adverse events were usually mild to moderate and generally resolved within seven days. Most common side effects were injection site reactions, including swelling, redness, bumps and bruising.
