CoolTouch reports that its CoolLipo 1320 nm laser system has received 510(K) clearance by the FDA for laser lipolysis.

According to the company, this laser ablates fat in the arm, chin and neck areas and improves the outcomes of traditional liposuction in larger areas of the body (i.e., abdomen and thighs). Its 1320-nm wavelength works to tighten the skin from the inside out by targeting collagen and connective tissue.

"This is an ideal procedure for those who aren't ready for a full face or neck lift, or have small fatty areas that don't respond to diet and exercise," says Douglas Key, M.D., F.A.C.S., from the Key Laser Institute in Portland, Oregon.

According to Robert Weiss, M.D., F.A.C.Ph., associate clinical professor of dermatology at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, the CoolLipo 1320 nm laser system provides excellent skin tightening and fat contouring ability that is not found with traditional liposuction alone.
