CO2 laser with customized pattern of tiny dots

Article-CO2 laser with customized pattern of tiny dots

Eclipse Medical, in partnership with DEKA, announces the availability of Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) therapy, which the company describes as an advanced carbon dioxide laser that delivers CO2 energy to targeted areas (i.e., face, neck, décolletage), effectively treating fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage and acne scarring.

Compared with other CO2 lasers, the DOT system ablates a customized pattern of tiny, micron-sized dots, instead of an entire skin surface. DOT therapy uses the SmartXide DOT CO2 laser, which features the DOT scanner. DOT is ideal for treating pigment, skin laxity/texture issues, wrinkles, acne scars, and dyschromia, according to the companies.

Once a DOT therapy procedure is complete, thousands of microscopic perforations help stimulate new collagen growth, resulting in improved texture and tone of the skin, they report. Skin around individual perforations is left intact, which allows for rebuilding of collagen.

The DOT system requires a topical anesthetic and patients reportedly experience little to no pain with the procedure. There is little downtime for patients who have DOT therapy, and they are able to apply makeup following the procedure.
