Procedure description: A popular approach for modifying the buttocks’ shape is the Brazilian Butt Lift — also known as fat injections, fat transfer or fat grafting of the buttocks. It usually consists of a combination of liposuction around the buttocks and many injections of fat into the buttocks. The fat is your own fat that was harvested by liposuction from either around your buttocks or from your abdomen or elsewhere. This fat is then processed and purified before it is re-injected.

Length of Procedure: Buttocks augmentation surgery usually takes 2 to 3 hours.

Recovery: Following either the Brazilian butt lift or the butt implants procedure, you must not sit directly on your buttocks for up to 3 weeks. This helps to ensure a permanent result. Most people can return to work in 2 weeks, provided you do only a minimum amount of sitting. You must wear a special garment (to control swelling) for 2 weeks. There may be a small amount of swelling for up to 6 weeks. However, you should be able to resume all normal activities at 4 weeks post-op.

Risks: Risks: The most common complications associated with this procedure include infection, bleeding, and scarring. Other, less common complications; hematoma (collection of blood), seroma (fluid buildup). Complications from fat transfers are infrequent. Like any surgery, having the Brazilian buttock lift is not without risks. The technical skill of your doctor is important for its success. Be sure to inquire how many successful operations your surgeon has performed before you go under the knife. If purified fat is not injected properly, it may leave the patient with an uneven backside; and if the fat is not dispersed deeply enough, a patient’s body may reject, or even burn off, the fat within a year’s time.

Results: Typically, if the procedure is done correctly, the results should last for many years. There is swelling after the procedure, and the full results may not be clearly seen until after the swelling goes down in 1 to 3 months. Depending on the amount of augmentation needed, you may need to undergo a great deal of injections, which are made at various sites and depths in your buttocks.

Estimated Cost: On average, patients will pay anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000 for the procedure, depending upon the amount of work that needs to be done, surgical fees, location and specialist.
